PreventionWeb, the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction's global knowledge platform used by over 320,000 people a month, has partnered with Climate Policy Radar to bring its disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation policy content into CPR's database. Editor Alex Tsakiridis explains how the partnership helps policymakers and researchers connect disaster risk and climate policy frameworks, and bridge institutional silos between the two fields.

Alex, hello, thanks for joining us. Could you please start by introducing PreventionWeb to our readers?

Absolutely. PreventionWeb is the global knowledge-sharing platform for disaster risk reduction (DRR) and resilience. It provides daily-updated and community-generated content -including news, publications, blogs, events, training, and policies- from over 12,500 organisations. Its content and services are being used by over 320,000 decision‑makers, practitioners, and researchers, each month.

That’s an impressive reach. What are you currently working on?

Over the last years, PreventionWeb has been engaged in bringing to the fore new trends, unheard voices and perspectives from the field of disaster risk reduction practice and research. At the same time, we have been strengthening PreventionWeb's policy library and country-level information to provide the most accurate and comprehensive information for decision-makers and experts to support them in their work to prevent disasters. With the aim to provide further networking opportunities, we have also been organising online events bringing together DRR professionals to exchange on specific topics, with public participation.

The perfect partner for us! What sort of work are you doing with Climate Policy Radar?

PreventionWeb's policies on disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation are now being featured on Climate Policy Radar. The collaboration with Climate Policy Radar enhances the visibility and usability of both DRR and climate change policies. On the one hand it empowers policymakers, researchers, and practitioners to understand how disaster risk and climate change-related risks are being addressed within broader policy frameworks. On the other, it enables users to explore and analyse global trends, gaps, and best practices more effectively. By being able to explore such a multitude of policies, countries can use each other as a source of inspiration for further developing their own policy structures.

And how is CPR helping your organisation meet your goals?

The partnership between PreventionWeb and Climate Policy Radar significantly advances PreventionWeb’s mission to serve the information needs of all those interested in disaster risk reduction and climate change by enhancing access to policy intelligence. Together, Climate Policy Radar and PreventionWeb, increase the visibility of actionable climate-resilience strategies, contributing to more coherent and effective DRR policies worldwide. This partnership also envisions enhancing the link between the climate and disaster risk reduction communities by sharing common knowledge platforms and collaborative spaces. It helps bridge institutional and policy silos by bringing DRR and climate action policies into a shared, searchable space, fostering coherence across sectors.
